…I was rather disappointed. Foolishly I had hoped that, since we already had the Transformers introduced, the CGI renders built, and a bigger budget, that we would actually see them get some characterization. Sideswipe, for all the hype around him, only had one scene, and two lines total. The only Autobots to get some screen time and plenty of lines were the twins, who didn’t turn out to be as annoying as I expected. They actually made me laugh, but some of their language was way too crass for little children.

And with one important character, we did. I had fun watching Starscream on the screen, though he was portrayed less as the arrogant seditious commander and more as Megatron’s bitch. Still fun, but not accurate.

Wheelie was also funny, being the total inverse of the annoying G1 kid and making him this foul mouthed little cretin. I enjoyed him, until he disappeared for no reason, just like Barricade in the last movie. He had his penultimate scene humping Mikaela’s leg. oO

That’s what bothered me the most about the movie actually, the excess of low-brown potty humor. We thought Bumblebee pissing was bad? Well I guess they figured we hadn’t seen nothing yet. Seriously, are Kurtzman and Orci five year olds? They gave Devastator testicals, Jetfire farted, and half the robots spit throughout the movie.

Again, with the shakey camera! You couldn’t blink for this movie or you’d risk missing something. The editing was horrible. And the camera panning in on Mikaela’s body as she was undressing was just shameless.

This movie? Not made for fans. Or little children. Or mature adults. I had fun with the fight scenes, and I’ll admit, I laughed often enough so that the movie was not a total waste of time of film, but DAMN, they need to bring in better writers who understand that Transformers can be more than just mindless entertainment.

I definitely agree with most of your points.

Bringing the shaky cam thing. I thought the forest battle was an improvement on the shaky cam thing. I wonder how Bay did that right but not the other battles.

I totally agree with you.

I wasn't very familiar with Bay's work before the first TF movie so the zoomed in stuff didn't really bother me... but I noticed it way too much in this movie. Maybe because as you said, if you dared blink, you'd miss a shit load of stuff. This movie was rush rush rush and with such zoomed in scenes, it was hard to keep up with things or see what was going on.

It was so much of a mind fuck I left the theater with a dumbfounded look on my face and feelings of emptiness.

The length didn't help, either. So much happened so quickly, by the end of the movie I was already forgetting stuff that happened in the first 10 minutes. At least some scenes didn't feel dragged out like in the first movie. When I watch the first one I sometimes have the urge to skip long drawn out scenes to get to the good stuff.

I'm also disappointed in the lack of characterization. I felt the same way as you going in. Hoping with more money and already built models, we'd get all kinds of good scenes with the robots just talking to one another. I should have known better. Ok so Starscream got more than two lines. What about Sideswipe and Jolt? Even Optimus felt shafted and he was like the main focus of this movie.

I really wish people would stop giving the excuse of "leave your brain at the door". I don't want something I care about so much to be mindless entertainment. We care for these characters so much and these movies aren't doing them justice. Eye candy is great but just not good enough for me.

Sideswipe definitely needed a bigger scene to himself than just a chase-and-slice sequence, as awesome as that was. He needed characterization so we could root for him!

I had a hard time keeping up with things too because of such a sensory overload. Too much insignificant stuff happened too fast, and it diluted the important things.

And I agree about the mindless entertainment. I feel insulted that they think we appreciate mindless drivel and that we should be greatful for any crap they put out. No one can be entertained and turn their brain off at the same time. It's an oxymoron.

By the way, thank you for reading and replying to my journal. I appreciate it, since hardly anyone reads these things.
